Sharing food can be a very sensuous experience which makes Tapas a brilliant couples cuisine. Sadly many of the staples of the Spanish quarter can be a little too frantic to allow for any cosy chit chat over the patatas bravas. Luckily for singles on the north shore, Catalonia in Kirribilli offers the ideal dating and dining experience.

It’s a good mix of stylish and casual with a contemporary bar area leading on to a cute alfresco courtyard. Upstairs is a slightly more formal dining experience with eccentric scorpion red wallpaper. Choose your seats wisely if you’re dining upstairs. The cushioned bench seat is a lot higher than the chairs, which left my date level with my chest. The waitress explained all the staff helped to make the furniture which explains a lot.

The cocktails were interesting and mixes of fresh herbs and fruity flavours, and all tapas dishes were excellent. I can highly recommend the zucchini flowers. You will need a least two each to feel satisfied but the portions are perfect for those who like to taste as many flavours as possible. Sampling the dishes together enhanced the intimacy of the evening although I thought my date ate a little more than his fair share. You can tell a lot about someone from the way they dine -another reason why tapas makes a great first date dining option.
